Inter coolers are radiators for your turbo charged (boosted) vehicle. In the beginning of turbocharging there was very little information about what HOT air is doing to the engine. Not only does hot air rob you of horse power but it can destroy the engine as well. Building boost builds heat and you need to control that heat. So choosing the proper size, and design of inter cooler is important to your combination working at it's full potential. But do you always need an inter cooler? The answer is no, if you keep boost low the pressurized air will not heat up enough to need an inter cooler. But after that you will need one and depending on your build the size and design will greatly effect your final out come.
